How to Make the Most of Your new Home Build or Renovation

Everyone and their mom are building a new home or renovating. Literally!!! My mom is renovating right now, just kidding…… I think she might be thinking about it though…..The point is that there is a strong possibility if you haven’t remodeled or decided to build a new home you are thinking about it at this very moment. It’s a very big decision. Here is some of our expert advice on how to make the most of your next project.

Budget

The cost of construction has gone up by 30% so having a budget and a budget for your budget is probably the smartest thing you can do! I ask this question of clients all the time and clients can be shy with the answer but knowing and sharing your limits is key to making sure your project doesn’t head in the wrong direction ..

Move Out

Yes you heard correctly! Leaving home and staying in your 2nd home ,with family , friends, or a rental can be the best thing you can do for this! Trying to stay in the residence while it’s being renovated is going to be trouble for everyone involved. You will be stressed out , GC will be stressed out , and your stress will be stressed out. When you live in the residence , you forget you don’t have a general contracting license and start asking about every bent nail in every board. It’s a recipe for issues because it makes the job a lot harder on the professionals working on your home to focus on giving you the best possible results. So the best thing would be for you to come to the residence at the time you , the design team and the GC decide is critical for your review. It will save you on so much unnecessary stress! If you’re building , you can’t live there , so you don’t have a choice in the matter, but scheduling site visits would be ideal.
Keep It Simple

Since there are so many ideas out there to choose from it can be very tempting to pick a little bit from each thing we see and try to implement it. Although it’s a cliche it’s true. Stay true to you! You will be happier in the long run. Often the temptation is to copy what we see , but creating something unique to you is where all the good stuff happens. That’s it , even this tip simple!
Stay Organized

By keeping your project organized you can avoid the urge to skip to the end if you will. Because we have been looking forward to the finish for so long there is a temptation to skip to the end.

As a design team we organize your project in such a way to make sure each part of the process continues to move forward.
A lack of organization leads to chaos and a little confusion on what happens next.
An example would be purchasing furniture before you have selected your finishes on the construction side or
trying to buy the outdoor pieces before the interior is settled .

In order for your project to meet all the design principles including , color , scale and balance , certain items are selected in a particular order and method.
The order of the execution is just as important as the execution.
Less is More

Design is really more about what to leave out . It is a process of editing and refining. Often you are looking at it about what to put in your project. If you change your thinking you can easily get to a beautiful and refined look.
We approach the design with a clean and defined approach. Less is more is a great way to achieve this.

This process takes a lot of strategy and thought and can be a stressful process. That’s why LaCasa Azul Design was created to help you have a gorgeous and functional home!
