Ready, Set, Decorate

Decorating has been going on literally forever....even as far back as cavemen chiseling images  on the stones in their caves.... I think that is both completely hilarious and totally awesome at the same time! I imagine their conversations were something like.......

Martha, "Cavewoman" :  Honey! We need to spruce up this place.... its depressing in here!

Bruno, "Caveman" : Ok Love muffins let's go to Cave Depot and get a new chisel and stain...

Could you imagine?

It is very instinctual to turn your house into a home.

I think we all feel the need to make our environments better, brighter, bolder and more beautiful so we can escape the everyday pressures of life.  Its really whatever suits our personalities.... I am the self proclaimed master of monochromatic texture.... I love mixing textures and tone on tone patterns in the same color scheme and not making it look boring.  There is that x factor in the room that you just- can't -quite figure out why it works, but it just does...  Okay Geez ...So Maybe I'm not a master or Empress or Queen... fine... I just really have fun with this stuff... In design school I always loved the resource room where I could dig through heaps of fabrics and materials and pull something spectacular together.... I still thoroughly enjoy this, but enough about me right?

Let's make it about you.  How do you add decoration to your home that feels good, suits your personality and just looks great!  Well there is a great saying.... If you do what you have always done then you'll get what you have always gotten...

This room shares a beautiful balance.  Many different woods, textures, patterns and colors are combined for something serene and very simple.

1.

Don't keep approaching your home with the same set of eyes...

If you like brown.... its time to go for it and find something WHITE..... If you like blue its time to find something  PINK or ORANGE. This will act as a  jolt of electricity and something unexpected in the mix will give it the life its been missing...

Doesn't that sound like song lyrics? " Give it the life its beeeen missing" ..sorry I get distracted easily...

2.

I would advise that you stay away from online shopping for certain things....

reason being...Many online items are not warrantied and have no service or guarantees because they are mass produced and have been made at a consumer grade level... aka cheap.  Think of it like this...If you buy something online for $100 its really only worth $10.00 because of the mark up so keep that in mind when shopping.  Remember what I always say... "Buy it cheap ...Buy it again! And you most surely will....

3.

Use the resources around you....

Just like we look to our plumber to fix our toilets because he has the expertise, resources & access to the parts we need..... We need to use Designers that have the experience, the resources and proven ability to meet your needs.  Any good designer has access to vendors, furniture, and accessories that you typically wouldn't know existed without an introduction.  How awesome is that!

4.

Work one room at a time....

Whenever you don't stay focused and move from room to room, you end with an unfinished home that just never ever feels completed.  This my friend is for the birds!!!! Lets finish our rooms and our houses.

5.

Make a plan....

List your deal breakers, no no's and must haves

go and find some new sources to shop for your project.

Start making some bold decisions!  Its ok it won't hurt...

Enjoy your lux casita
