How to Love the Place You Live (and Work) In

Let’s face it, we’d all love to change things about our current living spaces. While some feel new furniture is the ticket, others may think an entire kitchen remodel is in order.

Looking at homes on TV and social media can increase feelings of dissatisfaction. Seeing people with unlimited resources turn spaces into dream homes may not be realistic given your current circumstance. And it’s time to stop beating yourself up about it!

Instead, think of small things you can do that will make you love the space you live (and maybe even work) in. Here are a few suggestions.

Find Inspiration in Your Home

Instead of taking on remodeling projects that require a lot of time and money, think of working with what you have. For instance, a simple paint job or adding funky wallpaper can do wonders.

Rearrange furniture to create small living spaces or an open floor plan. You can even work with objects around your home to make vignettes by grouping similar items together for display.

Open shelving is another easy to access trend that can create a homey, modern look.

Keep Your Home Clean and Tidy

You would be amazed to find how much better your home looks once it is clean and tidy.

Cleaning on a regular basis will give your home a brighter, more comfortable look.

You can also work on eliminating clutter by throwing out and donating items you don’t need.

If you still have an excess of items around the home, try investing in multipurpose furniture. A coffee table with bottom shelves and drawers works as both a living room table and a storage unit.

Upscale Existing Pieces

You can give your interior a facelift by upscaling existing pieces. Have a bureau that’s looking shabby? Or maybe you have a couch that’s looking a little worn.

A simple paint job or reupholstering can help these items look like new. In some instances, you can even make them look better than the original.

There are plenty of DIY blogs on the internet that provide tips that will instruct you on how to make these improvements, but if you’re not crafty, you can take them into a professional. Chances are you will still end up spending less than you would if you had to completely replace these pieces.

Repurpose Rooms

You may like your rooms much better if they were used for a different purpose.  If you have a dining room you rarely use, consider converting it into a home office. If you are reserving extra bedrooms as guest rooms, try turning one into a toy room instead.

Repurposing rooms gives you the option to redecorate, it can provide a less cluttered appearance and it can just make life more convenient.

The next time you start feeling dissatisfied with your home, don’t let depression set in. These small improvements will get your rooms looking their best making for a happier atmosphere all around. What do you recommend doing to give your interiors an extra boost?
