5 Tips to Redesign a Room You Love
Perhaps your room is a bit outdated, or you simply want a refresh of your favorite space. Knowing exactly where to start can be one of the most challenging parts if you're not design-savvy. Often times our homes are a safe haven from the busy world. So why not create a space that you adore spending time in?! After all, our homes are the backdrop to our lives. Let’s go over a few tips on how to achieve this.
Assess your current space:
When re-designing a room it’s important to ask yourself a few questions to help guide you in the right design direction:
What is the main purpose of this room?
What do I love/hate about this room?
Is there too little or too much furniture?
Are there any eyesores that need to be addressed?
What feeling do I want this room to convey?
Search for Inspiration:
Start by finding what your design style is. Whether that be mid-century modern, farmhouse, bohemian, or a mix of a few. After you have an idea of what that may be, search for images based on your design style. See if you can find commonalities throughout the images to help you come up with a game plan.
Decide on a Color Palette:
No matter what style you decide on, it can be difficult to start designing the room without a color palette. To help determine a color scheme, it may be helpful to look back at your inspiration photos for reference. Collecting fabric swatches and paint chips can also help you get a better sense of how the colors will work with your space
Create a layout:
Decide on a layout that works in your spaces' favor. Perhaps the room is on the smaller side or has an uncentered window, creating a layout will help you figure out what pieces work and don’t work.
Take inventory of your items:
If you have lived in a space for a long time, it can be difficult to envision a room freshly. Start by taking a look around and seeing what pieces you still love and feel would work with the new design. If you are on a tight budget consider what items can be replaced or “repurposed”. Being able to determine what you have to work with will help you plan accordingly. After all, you are redesigning a room that you love right? So put something you love in it!!!
At this stage, you’ve got a plan of action, and by following the above basic steps, you will be easing on down the road to a well pulled together space. Make your home your haven and your re-design will easily be a room that you love for years to come.
